MARTHA'S VINEYARD Marcotting Pods for Air Layering - Medium 5 pack

Suits stem diameters 8 - 12mm

Pack of 5 pods

Marcotting, also known as air layering , is a method of cloning of plants that are often difficult to root from cuttings. This method involves propagating a new plant from a branch still attached to the parent plant, by getting roots to form on the branch. Once the Roots have formed inside the marcotting pod, the stem can be cut from the parent plant ( underneath the new root ball) and a new plant is ready for potting or planting out.

The Martha's Vineyard Marcotting Pod achieves stronger aerial roots to reproduce a more mature plant faster and often more successfully than traditional cutting methods, especially for difficult to propagate plants. Many types of plants can be air layered including tropical indoor plants, magnolia, camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons. Nut and fruit producers can be easily air layered too.

Select a vertical branch, just below the bud make two horizontal cuts in the bark 10mm apart.. Peel the bark away between the cuts to expose the inner cambium. Fill the pod with moist coco peat ( coir) or sphagnum moss and clamp the pod the exposed cambium. Seal the capsule to prevent from drying out, and water weekly. check for root growth after 6 weeks. Once established, cut the branch below the pod and plant the baby plant out.
