OPINEL N°08 Outdoor Fluro Folding Knife - Green

Its very strong blade (2.5 mm thick) is serrated over 3.5 cm to cut natural or synthetic ropes and has a shackle key for 4 to 10 mm shackles. Its handle is water-resistant and whitstands extreme temperatures. It is equipped with a whistle. The built-in pea-less survival whistle functions in all weathers (110 decibels). Featuring the Opinel safety ring means you can carry this knife around with ease.

Stainless Steel Blade: Hardness 55-57 HRC. European origin. The stainless steel used in OPINEL blades is a grade optimized to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade offers excellent sharpness and high resistance to abrasion (wear) which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramics, before requiring re-sharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage of requiring no special maintenance under ordinary conditions of use, unlike carbon steel. Nevertheless, it can meet its limits when it is put in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent)

Handle: Fibreglass-reinforced polyamide to whithstand shocks, humidity, and extreme temperatures(-40°C à +80°C).

Safety Ring: Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from the N° 06. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport).

ABOUT OPINEL:

Victor-Amédée Opinel who was a peddler, learnt how to forge nails during his travels. He set up his first blacksmith workshop in Gevoudaz, a hamlet part of Albiez-le-Vieux, near Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. His son Daniel later worked alongside his father and grew to became a renowned “edgetool maker”(maker of sharp tools) among farmers who came from afar to buy his billhooks or sickles...

Fast forward to the new millenium and the Opinel pocket knife is recognised as one of the 999 most successful designs of all times by a jury of international designers in the beautiful three-volume set of the "Phaidon Design Classics"
