OPINEL N°08 Traditional Carbon Steel - Beechwood

Carbon steel is the steel historically used by Opinel, which has contributed to the brand's global fame. The carbon steel blade is marked by its exceptional cutting quality and ease of sharpening. The knives are ideal for DIY, gardening, sculpture, wickerwork etc. The blade requires specific maintenance to avoid the risk of corrosion.

The knives feature a beechwood handle for comfortable handling. A Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from the #06 up, which allows users to lock the blade when open (safety in use) and closed (safety in transport).

Blade: XC90 carbon steel blade. Opinel carbon steel is extremely hard, thereby guaranteeing excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance and easy regrinding. Carbon can corrode easily. We advise you to avoid damp locations and to wipe and grease the blade after use.

Handle: Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. From France, our beech is hard, durable and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is characterized by the presence of numerous small dark dashes.

ABOUT OPINEL:

Victor-Amédée Opinel who was a peddler, learnt how to forge nails during his travels. He set up his first blacksmith workshop in Gevoudaz, a hamlet part of Albiez-le-Vieux, near Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. His son Daniel later worked alongside his father and grew to became a renowned “edgetool maker”(maker of sharp tools) among farmers who came from afar to buy his billhooks or sickles...

Fast forward to the new millenium and the Opinel pocket knife is recognised as one of the 999 most successful designs of all times by a jury of international designers in the beautiful three-volume set of the "Phaidon Design Classics"
